BEAUTY & THE B.E.E. with Ben Voss, 1 SHOW ONLY, 2 Oct, at the Barnyard Theatre, Gateway. This show sees well known SA director Janice Honeyman teaming up with comic star Ben Voss (Green Mamba and Black Mamba) to bring you Beauty Ramapelepele, a 49 year-old nouveau-riche Houghton mother of two who is fast developing a national profile on both East Coast Radio & Jacaranda FM. Beauty has tata-ma-chance struggle credentials. Her drug-running father was killed in the cross-fire of the Sharpeville massacre of 1960 while delivering dagga to a group of teenagers, her sister is married to the Head of the Reserve Bank and she counts Zuma’s wives as personal friends. However, this gives her the inside line on all gossip in the power corridors of SA business and politics! And to cap it all, she is the trophy wife of self-made construction mogul Tobias Ramapelepele, a man who boasts two of the Gautrain stations as well as the new Moses Mabhida soccer stadium amongst his current contracts. Beauty Ramapalapele is the perfect SA weapon - black, bright, beautiful, bitchy woman at the top of her business and social game. With a nose for gossip and inside information on everything from stripes to checks, and the BEE to the president’s office, Beauty Ramapelepele gives us a “fly on the wall” view of SA’s new black elite. Hers is a rags to riches story of our relatively tender democracy built on her simple and effective business philosophy - “Invest in Africa…buy a politician!” R115pp, and with one show only, make sure you don’t miss out - 031 566 3045 / gateway@barnyardtheatres.co.za or visit www.barnyardtheatres.co.za for more info

THE WHEEL, Children’s theatre for the Michaelmas holidays, 11am, until 4 Oct, at the Catalina Theatre, Dbn. Written by Brian Way – the world-renowned playwright of children’s theatre. The Wheel reminds us of the importance of make-believe, working together, kindness and having good fun! Ned Wheelwright makes wheels for a living. His wheels were always perfectly-made except one day a wheel was made with one spoke missing. A note appeared on this faulty wheel one night stating clearly that Ned was not to sell this wheel for one whole year! Much to the chagrin of his grumpy wife and the village trouble-maker, Ned put the wheel aside and refused to fix it or sell it. The missing spoke, was, of course, magical! She came to the village and charmed Ned, his wife, the other villagers… even the trouble-maker. The magical spoke reminded the village to take time to tell stories to the children, to play, dress up and have fun… and to always be kind and help each other. R45 including a boat ride around the harbour. Show only tickets are R30. No concessions. Bookings www.strictlytickets.com - more info from Thandeka 031 305 6889 / 031 305 7612 / tsibisi@mweb.co.za

SHOMON & guest artists - A very special fundraising event for Domestic Animal Rescue, 11am-4pm, 10 Oct, at Momoco's Coffee Shop, 168 Old Main road, Botha’s Hill… next to Pot & Kettle. Including 3-course luncheon – R150 / Just the show R50. Domestic Animal Rescue is a care facility that Melanie has built up and runs on her own. She rescues lost and abandoned pets from sometimes horrendous places and nurses them back to health, sterilises them, and also finds them good homes to go to. The venture started five years ago when Melanie rescued an abandoned cat and it became something of a habit, where her passion for animals saw her taking in the abandoned creatures that most of us would drive by and forget about. Since then the operation has grown into a home version of an SPCA, where she has built her own kennels and now cares for - on average - about 100 animals, most of which are able to find themselves good homes. To celebrate Melanie's selfless work, we’re having a grand 3 course lunch and treating ourselves to the sounds of Shomon – a highly gifted guitarist/pianist whose powerful voice, and deeply moving compositions are an experience not to be missed! Shomon has been in hiding for some time, creating new music and working on her show, now she is giving her time to support Mel and Domestic Animal Rescue… Please join us for this extremely good cause! THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC… until 11 Oct, at the Barnyard Theatre, Gateway. Like the two bands the show pays tribute to, Dancing Queen has been such a phenomenal success that The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway is bringing it back for an encore season! Dancing Queen brings together two of the most influential pop and rock groups of all time – ABBA and Queen. This elaborate production takes you on a trip back through space and time when glitz, glam and some of the greatest pop tunes ever written emerged in the 70s & early 80s. On the other side of Dancing Queen we encounter a different musical experience that compliments the poppy tunes of ABBA as we introduce the music of Queen - a band that symbolised the excessive and over the top showmanship that characterised the decadence of the same period. Queen were noted for their musical diversity, multi-layered arrangements, vocal harmonies and the talented cast pull this off to perfection. R115pp Wed to Sat, with discounted specials of R80pp every Tues night & Sun matinee. Contact 031 566 3045 / gateway@barnyardtheatres.co.za or visit www.barnyardtheatres.co.za

COLD SWEAT, until 3 Oct, in the Main Gallery at artSPACE durban. An exhibition by Christiaan Diedericks & Vulindlela Nyoni. artSPACE durban is proud to bring these two highly talented printmakers together in a shared exhibition. Chris is currently living in Cape Town and lectures at Vega. Vuli lectures in Printmaking, Drawing and Photography at UKZN Pmb. This current body of work is a reflection on the human condition and the dystopian relationship we have with authority, belonging and home. With the working title of the exhibition as 'cold sweat' I am drawn to thinking about the moments in human behaviour where we are subjects/ subjected to the intention or reasoning of another. One can say that it is at moments like this that we are forced to break out into a 'cold sweat'. As you may gather the imagery deals with the matter of human subjectivity, communication, miscommunication, etc., but in this selection more so there is a the aspect of a protagonist. The protagonist in this case is the ever present 'fool-king' who is unable to fathom the repercussions of his/her actions and stumbles blindly into the world. artSPACE durban, 3 Millar Rd (off Umgeni), 10-4, Mon-Fri; 10-1, Sat. RIVERS OF THE WORLD, Informative Outdoor Art Exhibition, at the Durban Botanical Gardens. The ever-proactive British Council is bringing its outdoor touring exhibition to Durban. In 2007/8 learners from various schools and educational centres in London (UK); Shanghai (China); Kolkata (India); Cairo (Egypt); Sao Paulo & Recife (Brazil); the State of Veracruz (Mexico) and Cape Town worked with artists to create a series of magnificent large-format artworks inspired by their city’s river. The artwork, and accompanying narrative, is being displayed in this innovative touring exhibition. The exhibition is travelling to each of the riverside locations in each of the participating cities. Based on the astonishing response to their former British Council environmental-themed exhibition, the hugely successful Zero Carbon City exhibition, the British Council is including Durban in the international tour of Rivers of the World. The Gardens’ education officer, Martin Clement, is encouraging school groups to visit the exhibition and learn about the world’s major rivers, some of the issues affecting them, and the people who engage with them. There are special educational kits for school groups who visit the exhibition. The Gardens are open 7 days a week. Entry is free and all are welcome. FREE SPINAL ASSESSMENT: Do you suffer from Stress & Tension, Headaches, Neck & Back Pain, Arthritis, Whiplash or a pinched nerve? Receive a free spinal assessment for you and one other family member, courtesy of Chiropractor, Dr Warrick Botha. Chiropractors specialise in evaluating the structure of the spine. Any vertebral misalignment can cause the spinal nerves to become irritated, and therefore a problem in any one of the vertebrae can affect the related nerve and part of the nervous system, leading to tension, pain, headaches, muscle weakness, muscle spasm, tingling & numbness. Chiropractic brings relief from pain and other symptoms by correcting any misaligned vertebrae, thereby removing any joint or nerve irritation and allowing the proper functioning of the nervous system. Phone 031 202 4724 to book your appointment. No treatment will be given, only a spinal assessment. No referral needed
Are you looking for TREATMENTS for VEINS, VASCULAR & LYMPHATIC CIRCULATORY PROBLEMS? There is hope with new advances in therapies available! Spider & vericose veins, poor circulation can all have associated pain and heaviness in the legs - with or without ulcers, this with hyperpigmentation due to poor circulation, swelling in the legs due to sluggish lymphatics, and very early stages of gangrene – can all be complications of long term poor circulation, as well as blue hands & feet due to smoking or Raynauds Syndrome. If one can treat the blood flow it treats all these symptoms as well as aiding in the treatment of arthritis & chronic pain, as joint lubrication then improves. As a medical practitioner I'm excited because never before have we been able to regenerate blood supply – only surgical removal or sclerotherapy for unsightly veins have been options until now, but neither of these improve the blood flow or circulation in the legs. Treatments now available include: 1. CARBOXY THERAPY – which releases the spasm in veins, decreasing pressure and improving flow - this effect is immediate. What follows is a strong stimulus to grow new capillaries. This improves the blood supply to and from the hands and feet. 2. SCLEROTHERAPY- for cosmetic improvement and to close dysfunctional veins – purely cosmetic effect. 3. LYMPH DRAINAGE MASSAGE - manual full body massage to remove longterm extracellular fluid and waste products in and around the lymph nodes. Helps for the effects of longterm poor circulation. 4. MESOTHERAPY- added when the skin has atrophied, to supply vitamins and minerals needed for healing and to speed up the regeneration process, as well as a vasodilator to relax the spasm in blood vessels, or for pain management in arthritis. GEOZONE ONLINE: We are currently putting together a website: www.GeozoneOnline.com with the aim of nothing less than "Romancing the Stone" where we take you on a long, slow waltz down through the millennia and to beguile you with the breathtakingly beautiful machinations of the Earth and the biosphere which it sustains. Explore the world of volcanoes and meteorites, tsunamis and earthquakes, as well as more topical issues of global warming and mass extinctions. In this regard GeoZone is an earthshaking reference tool to a wide range of topical subjects including Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Meteorites, Dinosaurs, Global Warming and Climate Change. These topics are getting plenty of airtime on National Geographic and the Discovery Channel but the point is, we don't have to travel to exotic locations to find it. Right here in your own back yard are fantastic examples of the geological history of Planet Earth, which you can go out and see it for yourself. And perhaps as the cherry on the top we have a GeoKids section with heaps of cool stuff on dinosaurs, volcanoes, earthquakes and meteorites, as well as toys, posters and games which will take you back to the long lost world of the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. WIDOWED NETWORK SA www.widowed.co.za: This most valuable support resource is the brainchild of Tash Reddy who, with her young son Daniel, suffered the tragic & traumatic loss of their husband & father. In trying to find ways to deal with her loss, face the world & be honest with Daniel, Tash found that there was no existing support network specifically for this extremely difficult & emotional time in one's life. From small beginnings in Dbn, it is now operating nationally, with online support & discussions, as well as group meetings in various areas. Anyone who has lost someone close to them will know how difficult it is to be around others... and how difficult others find it to be in their company, not knowing what to say or how to say it. Why close friends suddenly stay away, or no longer call, children asking simple questions, to which there appears to be no simple answer. Advice for suicide survivors, and for friends & family of the bereaved, dealing with the anger, guilt, faith, sudden chronic health problems, and so much more. In memory of her beloved husband Denver, Tash is now dedicating her life to the healing process for anyone in similar circumstances. Contact Tash at 084 366 0272 / tash@widowed.co.za or visit the website for more information

18.WORD
of MOUTH in KZN INFORMATION
Submitting Notices, Ads or Changes: If you have something you would
like to tell people about, all you need to do is send through a brief
notice along with your contact name, telephone number & email
address. The Publishers will, at their discretion, include it in the
next issue. Please note that no graphics or attachments will be
included and notices will appear in plain text format only.
To keep the newsletter interesting & varied, we try to send out
new
information in each newsletter, so new material will be given
preference: if necessary, re-word your notice. You will need to
resubmit each time you want your notice to appear. PLEASE, when
submitting your notices, send them in as brief a format as you can, in
plain text only, just like a "classified ad" in the
newspaper…
NO PICS OR ATTACHMENTS, please!! Send to Word-of-Mouth@tiscali.co.za in
plain text format only, in the body of the email.
Ideally, notices should be approximately 450 characters, or 50 to 60
words maximum, if possible. As this is a "spare time" initiative, there
is very limited time in which to edit & reformat material, so
those
who send it through in the correct format have a far greater chance of
being included!
Feedback: We'd be most interested to hear about any response to your ad
or notice, as well as any other comments you may have about the
newsletter. When responding to an ad or notice in WORD of MOUTH in KZN,
please tell them that you found their information here!
Privacy & Integrity: The Publishers undertake that neither the
mailing list nor any contact information, will be disclosed, sold,
loaned or otherwise passed on to any other party for any use
whatsoever. Integrity is of the utmost importance to the Publishers of
WORD of MOUTH in KZN. Your email address was acquired by honourable
means and is being used in good faith. It is not our intention to
offend or to send emails to anyone who may not wish to receive them.
Subscribe: Its free and safe. We value your privacy and it is easy to
unsubscribe.
Unsubscribe: Should you wish to be removed from the mailing list you
may do so very easily from the bottom of each mailing sent. Or, simply
send an email to Word-of-Mouth@tiscali.co.za with UNSUBSCRIBE in
the subject line.
